No Room? No Problem - We can live on the lake!
In our trip to Kerala, we visited Kumarakom (Lake Wembanad) from Trivandrum via Kottayam. Being the monsoon period, it seemed to be a low season with relatively fewer tourists except those who hated to see children running around (with the schools in most parts of India having commenced their new years). We stayed at a place called Illikkalam Lake resort. The term 'resort' seems to be misused in this part of the country with scant regard for size and facilities to qualify for that classification. 'Lake house' or 'Lake rooms' seems more appropriate. But I guess it is the marketing thing. The 'resorts' being far away from any stand-alone restaurants, one is essentially forced to eat what is provided by the kitchen and that may not agree with many. Our stay was very short, so it did not matter much. The following are a few images of the life on the lake.

The resort in Kumarakom was called Illikkalam Lake Resort. The USP of this place is that all the cottages (6 in all) have a verandah that is about 20 m from the lake. Gives the feeling that your are on the lake. Relatively cheap and is featured on Trip Advisor.
