Brazilian - Once in Four Years ?

Yesterday night it seemed like except for Uruguayans, Germans, Dutch, Spanish, Paraguayans, Argentines and some Indians in Kerala, a large section of the football watching population was briefly stunned and saddened by the unexpected and uncharacteristic loss of Brazil to Netherlands in the Quarterfinal of the Soccer world Cup in south Africa (Thanks for the Info!!). Even the commentator seemed to be upset and kept suggesting in the last few minutes of the match that Brazil can still come back, It was all not to be and the match became ugly through desperation.

I watch Brazil only once in four years during the soccer world cup. I do not follow their fortunes or do not even know the names of the main players. And yet, I want them to win and am sad if they lose. Why? Is it because their style of playing is very artistic to watch and there is a general sense of loss of style when they leave a tournament or is it that they are 'supposed' to be a great team and an upset always causes a perturbation. It was not like the Dutch won undeservingly. They played very aggressive and gritty football. Someone asked me the result of the match after it was over, and then followed up with the question - "Was it good?", - "who cares if it was good football, when Brazil lost" - was my response. I wonder!
