It is that time of the year when Hollywood is in overdrive. The Oscar (Academy Awards) nominations are out and every movie lover and critic start shooting - their mouths. Every news channel and a newspaper has a team of reviewers who then pull out their predictions. It is also the time of the year when you see all kinds of tests - "200 movies that you should have seen to consider yourself a movie buff", or "100 movies to see before you die" or "10 movies to help you die".
I too get very excited this time of the year. I used to consider myself a movie buff. This does not seem to count anymore since the arrival of the internet. During a quiz recently, one of the audience members commented that he could get the answer on the internet from his cell phone! I read in the newspaper recently in the 'Next Generation" section, a comment by one of the genXrs that he bought a DVD player 'two years' ago and discovered DVDs and now he is a movie buff! Well, it made me roll my eyes over violently! I have been watching movies since I was 24 inches tall - before TV, before cable, before VCR, DVD and that is a lot of good, bad and ugly movies. The only qualification these days that one seems to think one needs to be a movie buff is a DVD player. To which I quote David Mills (yes, i remember character names, thank you!) in Se7en (played by Brad Pitt) - "...just because the F****r has got a library card does not make him Yoda". (If you ask me who Yoda is - you really are a movie bluff!).
PS: Are you rolling your eyes violently!!!
